The Plucky Pheasant

Café/Restaurant is situated on the top of Newlands Corner, 4 miles east of Guildford town centre with spectacular views over the South Downs. Within the Surrey Hills ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’, Newlands Corner is a very popular attraction with plenty of woodlands to explore and is a great place from which to start a walk. The picturesque village of Shere, where our sister café The Dabbling Duck is located is within walking distance.

The Plucky Pheasant is open 7 days a week for breakfast, coffee & cakes, lunch and tea - served either inside the café or in our large garden with the incredible view. We enjoy a wide customer base, so whether you are meeting friends for coffee, lunching with your family, having a business meeting, walking, cycling - you will be assured of a warm welcome by our friendly staff.

All our food is made daily on the premises using high quality fresh, seasonal ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible. We can provide bespoke catering for events either on or off the premises - so if you are planning a birthday, anniversary or other celebration, we would be delighted to help you.

How we came about

Cathy Garthwaite and Christina Collins met as mums at their children’s school. Cathy had a background in hospitality and Christina in retail merchandising and they both shared a passion for delicious tasting food. They opened their first café The Speckledy Hen in Shamley Green in 2012, followed shortly by The Dabbling Duck in 2013 and most recently The Plucky Pheasant in 2018.

A Home from Home

All of our cafés have a relaxed ‘home from home’ feel with rustic style furniture that were sourced at various vintage markets. The walls and shelves are adorned with signs and gifts to buy, as well as jars of chutneys, pickles and jams - all made on the premises by our talented team of chefs. We are really committed to reducing food miles, the following are a selection of our local suppliers who have been chosen because of the quality and provenance of their products:
